How can alphabeats help me?

alphabeats is an advanced mental performance tool that uses neurofeedback and music to improve sleep, focus, flow, and recovery. It helps you perform at your best, manage stress, and build mental resilience. Users also report better moods, less anxiety, and feeling more grounded with regular use.

How does alphabeats work?

alphabeats uses a headband to monitor your brain activity. During a session, you choose your favorite music genre in our app. As you listen, the app subtly adjusts the music to help your brain stay calm and focused. This technique, known as neurofeedback, works by:

  • Measuring your brain waves
  • Providing immediate feedback when certain patterns are detected, helping your brain learn to maintain a calm and focused state.

Depending on the session, we may also incorporate visual feedback or interactive games, engaging your mind like a workout. After completing a session, you’ll receive detailed stats and can track your progress over time.

What are alpha brain waves?

Brainwaves are repeating patterns of brain activity. We can sort them into five types based on how fast they are. Slower waves (delta and theta) are strong when we're not very alert and focused on our inner world, like when we're asleep or falling asleep. Faster waves (beta and gamma) are strong when we're very alert and focused on the outside world, like when we're thinking about how to solve a problem. 

Alpha waves (8-12 Hz) are right in the middle of this range. When people show strong alpha waves, they often say they feel relaxed and calm, but also very awake and focused. Tasks feel easy, like you’re "in the flow." Our goal is to help you increase your alpha waves to achieve this state of calm focus when you need it most.

What is the science behind alphabeats?

The foundation of alphabeats was developed over 10 years ago by Philips in the Netherlands. The technology has been rigorously tested, and its effectiveness has been published in several peer-reviewed papers by Tilburg University.

This scientific foundation, combined with user feedback from our ongoing Pioneers Program, which includes everyone from pro athletes to CEOs, ensures a robust and effective solution.

How is alphabeats different from meditation apps?

alphabeats differs from traditional meditation by combining regular music, games, and visual-auditory stimuli with neurofeedback. While traditional meditation emphasizes mindfulness, alphabeats actively engages your brain and provides real-time feedback.

This allows you to  track changes and learn calm-focus skills that work specifically for you. For the best results, make it a regular part of your routine, similar to meditation or any other health habit.

Do I need a headband to train with alphabeats?

Yes, you need a compatible headband to use alphabeats. Currently, we support the BrainBit EEG headband, with more devices coming soon.

Are you actively sending signals to my brain?

No. Unlike other devices in the market, we are not emitting any (electrical) signals or pulses from our headband to your brain. Instead, our method is non-invasive and rewards the brain by modifying the music you listen to or the visual you’re looking at.

When should I use alphabeats?

We recommend incorporating alphabeats into your daily routine, whether in the morning, before or after training, or before bed. Users see results with any schedule—it all depends on your goals and what fits best into your day. Just be sure to find a quiet, distraction-free moment for your session.
